His Beatitude was born in Athens in September of 1950.

He studied Theology at the University of Athens.

He was consecrated a Deacon in 1975 and then ordained a Priest in 1978 by the late Metropolitan of North Ionia, Timotheos. As a young man he spent time on Mt. Athos and was a disciple of Papa Ephraim of Katounakia. In 1986, for matters of belief and principle, he joined the Old Calendarists of Greece, and was later elevated to Archimandrite.

In 1993, then Archimandrite Angelos was consecrated by Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa (ROCOR), and 12 other bishops from four synods including the Synod in Resistance under Metropolitan Cyprian, as well as Bulgarian and Romanian Old Calendarists. He was enthroned as Bishop of Thessaloniki, within the Synod under Metropolitan Cyprian, and remained there for two years.

He asked the Synod to release him to the Lamian Synod (Makariates) and was granted this release.

It was at this time that Bishop Angelos rebuilt the ruined monastery of the Beauty of the Theotokos in Avlona (Veotia district, county of Attika). The Synod agreed, and after receiving donations from sponsors and patrons, bought the ruin and rebuilt the 9th century monastery. He was later elevated to the status of Metropolitan of Avlona, as per the original 9th century Tomos.

He later left the Lamian Synod, and was canonically released.

Following this, he asked the Holy Synod of Milan under Met. Evlogios, to help him consecrate vicar bishops for the Metropolia. They agreed, and with the help of Met. Evlogios and Archbishop Luca of Torcello, two new bishops were consecrated, Archbishop Porfyrios and Bishop Cherubim.
