The deuterocanon consists of those books of the Old Testament which are rejected by Jews.

Protestants have adopted the Jewish Old Testament canon and in order to justify this, had to invent an intertestamental period. In a radical form, after Prophet Daniel the Ancient Hebrews were essentially left to their own devices without further divine revelation, until in the 1st Century BC St. John the Baptist suddenly appeared. More moderate views hold the deuterocanonical books as worthy of reverence but still do not accept them as canonical.
