Episcopus vagans

An episcopus vagans is a pseudo-bishop. Such a man either never was validly consecrated or was originally consecrated and thereafter began to practice as bishop contrary to the canons, for example after being deposed by his synod. This makes him effectively a schismatic (and perhaps a heretic as well). Unlike some other schismatics the literal meaning of wandering bishop implies that he does not have a synod.
