Help:Editing

If you do not yet have an account, you will need one to edit pages. There are links at the top right to request an account or to log in.

When editing, sections can be separated by placing equals signs before and after the heading, like so:

This is a heading
Two equality signs are used for a top-level section, three for subsections, four for sub-subsections, etc.

This is a heading
Subsection 1
Bla bla bla.
Subsection 2
Yap yap yap.
This is the second section
Subsection of the second section
Some text.
References section
<references/>

The tag <references/> should be used to automatically place all references in a list of footnotes. If you need to use a hyperlink to another site, most of the time it should be in a reference. The reference itself goes in a tag in the text, where the note should be made.

Note that there are buttons to add links above the edit box. You can also type the links in manually. Links to other pages should be in double square brackets, like this: Orthodox Church. Links to other sites use single square brackets. Capitalization matters for page names so you should get it right in the link, except for the very first character: Orthodox Church is the same as orthodox Church but Orthodox church is not. The text displayed in the page need not be identical to the page name. To change the text in a link to another article, you can place it after a pipe character (|) like this:

The Orthodox Church

For external links, simply leave a space between the URL and the text:

My example website

Whitespace on the displayed page is not identical to the whitespace you type in. You can put a line break between text and it will not generate a new line so long as there is only one break:

This first line
and this second line will be displayed as one line if typed in the edit box.

This first line

with two line breaks before the second line will cause it to be displayed as a new paragraph.

You can also type out a break instruction which looks like this: <br/>.

Categories help to classify pages and make it easy to navigate. Be sure to check the existing categories just in case the new one you want to use, already exists under a synonym. A page is categorized with a tag like this . It will not be displayed on screen.

You can access special pages from the link on the left. Wanted pages, wanted categories, etc. are a good place to start.

Templates are inserted with double parentheses. Some of these templates accept parameters, which are separated from the template name and each other by pipe characters. stub inserts the stub template, which you can see by typing Template:stub in the search box. Exammple will insert the See also template, giving it the parameter “Example” which will create a link to the non-existent page Example.

In order to make a page accessible by different names, redirect pages are needed. For example, clicking Church of Constantinople will lead you to Patriarchate of Constantinople. To do this, the page Church of Constantinople was created and the text in that page is:

#REDIRECT Patriarchate of Constantinople

This article or section is a stub. If you wish to help True Orthodox Wiki you may expand it. Request an account if you do not already have one.
