Orthodox Church in America
The Orthodox Church in America is a World Orthodox jurisdiction which claims the territory of the United States of America. It holds the dubious honor of being among the most ecumenist and modernist of all World Orthodox jurisdictions.
The OCA was formed in a schism with ROCOR. After ROCOR broke communion with and ceased to recognize the Sergianist patriarchate in accordance with Ukaz 362 of Saint Tikhon, the OCA (known at that time as the Metropolia) joined the Patriarchate of Moscow. They received recognition by Moscow and in turn recognized Moscow's claims to other territories outside of Russia.
Although recognized by Moscow, the OCA is not recognized as autocephalous by other World Orthodox jurisdictions which have staked claims of their own in America. This is especially true of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
