Pages in this category are about sainthood in general or about particular people officially glorified as saints by some or all groups claiming to be True Orthodox. Those who have not yet been glorified by any synod but whose veneration is common and uncontroversial, should also be listed here. If an individual has been glorified by some groups but contested by others, or is widely venerated but his sanctity is in dispute, Category:Controversial saints should be used. The same applies if someone may have been martyred but it is unclear, or if it is unclear whether the possible saint died in the Church. If a saint was recognized by the ancient church but disputed in our times, such as St. Augustine of Hippo, the saint belongs here instead of under controversial saints.

Finally, if someone outside of the Orthodox Church is claimed to be a saint by the group to which he belonged, whether Roman Catholicism or any other, and even if this claim is approved by some claiming to be Orthodox, the putative saint should not be categorized under saints at all.
