The Holy Metropolitan Synod of Genuine Orthodox Christians of the Patristic Calendar or simply "The Avlona Synod" is a Church of Old Calendarists which traces its history back to the 1935 schism with the Church of Greece over the acceptance of the Revised Julian Calendar. Its current primate is Metropolitan Cherubim (Doukatas) of Vithynia and Pamphylia. He succeeded Met. Angelos (Anastasiou) of Avlona, the founder of the synod. The synod is sometimes referred to as the GOC-A.
The synod was formed in 2008 with the assistance and by the proposal of Met. Evloghios (Hessler). Met. Angelos had previously departed the Lamian Synod with the consent of the same.
The Avlona Synod is a member of the International Union of Genuine Orthodox Churches and has a presence in Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, France, Georgia, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, South America, and the United States.
